NAVY LT ERVIN HATCHER WINS COPERNICUS AWARD

Navy LT Ervin Hatcher, Defense Information Systems Agency Pacific (DISA PAC), has been selected by the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) and the U.S. Naval Institute (USNI) as a fiscal year 2011 Copernicus Award Winner.

The Copernicus Award was established to recognize individual contributions to Naval Warfare in Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I), Information Systems, and Information Warfare.

Hatcher will be recognized by AFCEA and USNI at their awards reception and presentation ceremony Jan. 24, 2012 in San Diego, Calif.

AFCEA Hawaii Monthly Awards Nomination and Selection Process

Effective 2-9-2010 

Five monthly awards are presented from January through October:

Student of the Month
(Award is not presented during months when schools are not in session).

Senior Government Leader of the Month

Executive of the Month

Young AFCEAN of the Month

AFCEAN of the Month

During the first two weeks of every month, the AFCEA Hawaii Vice President for Awards (VP Awards) will solicit nominations from the membership for the above awards. The VP Awards will forward the list of nominees  to the Chapter Officers and Board of Directors to complete the  selection process, voting to be completed prior to the end of the month.

The AFCEA Hawaii membership will be able to nominate candidates for the selected awards, except for Student of the Month.  Nominations are entered via the AFCEA Hawaii website with:

(1)  the nominator’s contact information; and

(2) the nominee’s contact information, to include title and company/division name. 

(3) a short statement supporting the nomination;

Current members of the AFCEA Hawaii Executive Committee (Board of Directors and Officers) are not eligible for nomination. 

Although individuals may be nominated as often as warranted by as many members as possible, no one candidate will be selected for a specific award more than once in a calendar year.

The VP Awards will announce the winners at the Monthly Officers' Meeting prior to the Monthly Luncheon.

The winners will be contacted and asked for a short bio and the names of their guests who will also be invited to the luncheon where the awards will be presented.   Should any of the winners not be able to attend the luncheon, the awards will be announced and presented at a later luncheon. 

Selection Criteria

 Senior Government Leader of the Month: 

  • Senior Hawaii City & County/State/Federal Government Leader
  • AFCEA Hawaii membership is not required
  • Winner’s one guest attends luncheon at no charge

 Executive of the Month

  • A person who helps foster the mission of the AFCEA Hawaii Chapter
  • A strong community leader who participates in and promotes the IT and Communications industries.
  • AFCEA Hawaii membership is not required
  • Winner’s one guest attends luncheon at no charge

 Young AFCEAN of the Month

  • Under 40 years of age
  • Officer, Civilian or Enlisted
  • AFCEA Hawaii membership is required
  • Has contributed to the IT and Communications industries
  • Winner’s two guests attend luncheon at no charge

AFCEAN of the Month

  • AFCEA Membership is required
  • Exemplary personal support of AFCEA Hawaii
  • Winner’s one guest attends luncheon at no charge

 Student of the Month

  • Selected by Principal or Career Counselor
  • Alternates monthly between private and public schools on Oahu
  • Student excels in disciplines related to Science and Technology
  • Winner’s two guests attend luncheon at no charge
  • Receives a $100 savings bond.
